U11 School Teams 7-a-side 23/24 Autumn Tournament
The eight winning teams from the various District FAs of Nottinghamshire met at Sutton Lawn to decide on a County Champion who will represent Nottinghamshire in the Midland Regional Finals in a few weeks time. The teams were initially divided into two groups of four to play in a round robin format with the top two teams going on to play in semi finals and possibly a final.
The first round of matches in Group A saw Abbey, representing Mansfield, defeat Middleton from the Nottingham Association 2-0 whilst in Group B Burton Joyce from Gedling and Kingsway of Kirkby in Ashfield played out a 1-1 draw. The four remaining teams the came together for their first games with Coddington from Newark recording a 2-0 win over Tollerton from Rushcliffe in Group A and a second draw in Group B saw Prospect Hill and Greasley Beauvale battle out a 0-0 scoreline.
Coddington went on to record two more 2-0 wins over Abbey and Middleton and actually finished as the only team in either of the groups to record three wins in their three games and so qualify for the semi finals. In the remainder of the matches in Group A, Tollerton drew 0-0 with Middleton but lost 3-0 to Abbey – enough to give Abbey the runners up spot in Group A. In Group B a 4-1 win for Greasley Beauvale over Kingsway and a 0-0 draw against Burton Joyce just made them Group winners above Prospect Hill on goal difference who with a 1-0 win against Burton Joyce and a 0-0 draw with Kingsway grabbed the runners up spot.
The semi finals were contrasting affairs with Coddington 3-1 winners against Prospect Hill but in the other game Greasley Beauvale and Abbey fought out a 1-1 draw with Greasley going through 4-2 on penalties.
Despite going 1-0 down in the early stages, Coddington came back strongly to win 3-1 against Greasley Beauvale in an excellent final and confirmed the feelings of many there that they were the best team on the day, They were presented with their individual medals, wineers shield and Pokemon pennant by Bob Young, Chairman of the Association and now go on to represent Nottinghamshire in the Midland Regional Finals.
