Reprotec Small Schools 7-a-side

The County Finals of the Nottinghamshire Schools’ FA 7-a-side Small Primary Schools competition for schools with less than 100 pupils in KS2 took place at Sutton Lawn with four sides looking to take the title. These teams ranged from the very north of Nottinghamshire with Bassetlaw’s Misson to way down into the south with Langar and Cotgrave from Rushcliffe together with Linby from Kirky & District.

The morning got underway with Cotgrave and Langar meeting in what was probably the best game of the morning although it ended in a 0-0 draw after some excellent football. Linby then overcame Misson with a 3-0 win which for some time looked as though the three goals scored may well have turned out to be crucial Linby and Langar then drew 0-0 and Cotgrave managed a 2-0 win over Misson.

Fortunes were turned on their head though as Langar recorded an unexpected 5-0 win against Misson meaning that if Linby and Cotgrave drew their last game, Langar would win the title with a very tight goal difference decision. In another excellent last game of the tournament in which any one of three teams could win the league it looked for a long time as though a draw would be the outcome until midway through the second half Linby scored the all important goal to give them the title and Langar as runners up.

The Shield to Linby and medals for both teams were presented by Bob Young, Chairman of Nottinghamshire Schools’ FA with Linby going on to represent Nottinghamshire in the Midland Regional Finals in Nottingham on 28th March.
