U16 Girls Hilary Swinn Cup

WEST BRIDGFORD 9 v 0 EAST LEAKE

West Bridgford School, always strong in the girls’ game, proved unstoppable in a one sided final of the Hilary Swinn Cup as they defeated East Leake Academy. The odds were always in favour of West Bridgford as they had four Nottinghamshire representative players in their side but East Leake put up a spirited performance and never let their heads drop. The main difference between the sides was the quality of the finishing. After three near misses, Tianna Browne opened the scoring with a shot from just inside the penalty area and Bridgford doubled their lead after 29 minutes with an excellent effort from Bella Reed.

East Leake came close with two deflected efforts and despite some good saves by Emily Baldwin fell further behind when a fine clearance by Mollie Howells released Ellie Rowson for a clear run on goal and a good finish. In a half which was not reflected by the score, East Leake twice went close in the closing minutes.

The main features of the second half were a long range effort by Mollie Howells whose long shot from half way deceived the East Leake keeper and the completion of Rowson’s hat-trick. In the latter stages a tired East Leake side conceded further goals from Ashleigh Edwards, Bella Reed and Tanisha Basra as they continued to try hard right up until the end.
