The U15 Individual Schools Forest Bowl
The 26th Nottingham Forest Schools’ Finals night was again very well supported with a crowd of over 700 including former Nottingham and England Schools’ player Andy Cole, another former Forest favourite in Chris Fairclough and current players, Lewis McGugan and James Perch.
The Under 15 Forest Bowl, which was the climax of 4 hours of schools’ football, matched newcomers Djanogly City Aacdemy with Dayncourt School from Radcliffe. Despite producing only one goal, this proved an exciting game with Djanogly dominating possession in the first half. As Dayncourt’s record showed on their way to the final when they conceded only two goals in four matches, they were strong defensively with Barney Woodhouse and Ben Gathercole outstanding and although Djanogly had chances, they did not seriously trouble Dayncourt keeper Elliot Cook.
The game was more even in the second period but seven minutes from time, James Grainger-Brown latched on to a long through ball, outpaced a defender and cleverly angled the ball past advancing keeper, Aamir Norozee. That was not the end of the excitement as Djanogly launched a late bid for an equaliser in an extended period of play which included six minutes of added time. Taylour Atherton had a good chance but dragged his shot wide and then a surging run from the skilful George Bacon was only stopped by a fine tackle from the last defender. Harry Evans then had a shot well blocked while a spectacular diving header in front of his keeper by Woodhouse stopped a goal bound effort and somehow Dayncourt held on for their 1-0 success. |
