The U14 Individual Schools Forest Vase
The 26th Nottingham Forest Schools’ Finals night was again very well supported with a crowd of over 700 including former Nottingham and England Schools’ player Andy Cole, another former Forest favourite in Chris Fairclough and current players, Lewis McGugan and James Perch.
Perch and McGugan presented the Under 14 Forest Vase to West Bridgford School who had a comfortable 3-0 win over Top Valley School. West Bridgford have been regular visitors to the Forest Finals Night and they largely controlled the game with Matt Milnes pulling the strings in midfield and Jack Gordon Brown outstanding at the back. Ironically, it was Top Valley who had the first real chance of the game through Matthew Buckley who looked to be clear before a fine recovery tackle by Gordon-Brown.
Greg Halford went close for West Bridgford before they took the lead when captain Alex Waltman headed home a good cross from Ben Dunning for the only goal of the first half. After the break, Alex Skidmore put his side further ahead with a fine 25 yard shot into the top corner and Jake Caines confirmed Bridgford’s success with a header from a corner. This was the first time since season 1996-97 that Bridgford have won the Vase although they have been losing finalists since then.
