The U13 Inter Association Pavis Trophy
Nottingham 5 v 3 South Notts
The first of two Schools’ Nights at Meadow Lane saw Nottingham Schools complete a double success over South Notts in the finals of the Pavis Trophy and the Cobbin Cup.
The Under 13’s of the two Associations provided a most entertaining game in the Pavis Trophy. Nottingham made a flying start with their fastest goal of the season when Joseph Dodoo eluded the defence and put his side 1-0 ahead after only 8 seconds. Ten minutes later, a skilful inter-passing move between Dodoo and his Trinity School colleague, Louis Greenway-Tambini saw the latter hammer in a second.
Nottingham were dominating the game at this stage and went further ahead when Brendon Haywood broke clear down the left and beat Liam Bogues at the near post. In the 18th minute, the game appeared to be over as a contest when the City side scored a fortunate fourth goal when a shot rebounded off a defender, hit Greenway-Tambini and went into the net.
South Notts replied straight from the kick-off with a clever chipped shot by Remello Nangle and as they regained some confidence, were rewarded with a second goal just before half time when Greg Simmons raced on to a long ball and beat Swift in the Nottingham goal.
South Notts continued to improve after the break and after a tremendous save by Ryan Swift had resulted in a corner, it was delivered accurately to Simmons on the edge of the penalty area and he beat the keeper with a wonderful shot. South Notts then hit the post and looked as if they could go on to equalise or even win.
It took a few minutes for the City to respond and the ‘killer’ goal came from Joseph Dodoo with a superb individual effort to take Nottingham to a 5-3 win and the Pavis Trophy which was presented by Notts County player Michael Johnson.
