The U12 Boys Individual Schools Reprotec Cup
West Bridgford 3 v 0 Magnus
In near perfect conditions at The Poplars Sports Ground in Burton Joyce, Magnus School from Newark, who were appearing in their first County Cup Final at any age group for several years were faced with the task of stopping a West Bridgford goal machine that had accumulated over thirty goals in five rounds on their way to the final.
After an even opening few minutes West Bridgford gradually began to exert pressure on the Magnus defence and on 12 minutes took an early lead when Danny Elliott finished off a fine run with a shot that found its way under the keeper's body to put Bridgford one up.
The match continued to be a hard fought end to end affair but with very few real chances created and Bridgford probably having slightly the better of the exchanges. Magnus saved their best two efforts until just before half time with one shot narrowly clearing the bar and another shaving a post.
The second half saw Bridgford begin to gain the upper hand and Magnus held out until fifteen minutes from time when, following a mazy run in from the right, the ball was squared across the penalty area to Callum Price who, from the right hand corner of the area, hit an unstoppable shot across the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net.
Although Magnus stuck to their task bravely, helping to produce an excellent final, Bridgford were now well on top and added a third just before the end as Tony Shipley scored with a beautifully angled header from a left wing corner.
