Minute Maid National Semi-Final:  Trinity School 3 v 0 St Thomas More School (Northumberland)   -  Peafield Lane Primary School - National Champions! :  2 - 1 victory at Wembley over Dinglewell School from Gloucestershire

U12 Match Reports

Saturday 16 February

South Notts  6  1  Wakefield

It finally all clicked into place for South Notts Under 12’s with a convincing win over Wakefield . A change of colour perhaps had something to do with it! South notts continued in the same form as the previous week against Luton , pushing Wakefield back from kick off. With Dexter Atkins getting a start and Dominic Turner turning in his best performance in a South Notts shirt, the home side manufactured four openings within the first 5 minutes. Three times Atkins was through on goal but each time a poor shot, good save or lucky defending kept the score level. Another break from Atkins saw the first goal with Ben Collins able to tap in at the far post after another save by the Wakefield keeper.

South Notts buoyed by this early goal took the game to their opponents with Luke Shaw commanding the midfield. The second goal was put away by Turner after a scramble from a corner. Wakefield then woke up and pushed forward, scoring on their first attack although it looked as though the ball was perhaps handled on the way into the goal.

This didn’t deflate South Notts and they soon increased their lead again with a slick move involving Jake Glover, Shaw, and Atkins ending with Turner scoring a fine goal. South Notts strength in midfield and movement up front soon caused more problems and Turner scored his second of the game and South Notts fourth of the half. After half time some of the rhythm of South Notts play was disrupted by substitutions but Wakefield couldn’t break through the home defence which was well marshalled by Sam Raynor. The re introduction of Shaw allowed South Notts more creativity and soon Atkins movement again caused problems. A flashing cross was turned into the goal by a Wakefield defender and then a strong run by Turner allowed Atkins to slot home his second of the game and South Notts sixth of the match.

This ended a performance that the side has promised in recent weeks and finally delivered. With 6 players now coming from the very strong West Bridgford school side, it is hoped that the team can finish the season undefeated.
