Organisation and Activities

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

The Association was formed in season 1921 / 1922 when a cup for an annual competition was presented by Mr HR Cobbin and it was the organisation for this which led to formation of the County Schools' FA. The Association is thus now in its 83rd year and its activities have greatly expanded in the last thirty years.

It fields four representative sides at Under 18, Under 16 and Under 15 level for boys and at Under 16 level for girls. These squads have had considerable success over the years, climaxed in 2001 / 2002 when the boys Under 16 squad won the national County Championship for the first time only to repeat the feat in 2003 / 2004 when the squad shared the Trophy with Essex Boys. The four squads compete in something like 30 Inter County matches a season.

The basis of the Nottinghamshire Schools' FA structure is, of course, football in individual schools. The 13 Local Associations all organise their own competitions for their affiliated schools while the County provides 18 knock out competitions and tournaments which are open to every school in the City and County. There are four Secondary Girls competitions at Under 12, Under 13, Under 14 and Under 16. Secondary age boys competitions are at Under 19, Under 16, Under 15, Under 14, Under 13 and Under 12. There are three cup competitions for the Under 11's - one open to every school, one for smaller Primary Schools and one for girls. There are also four tournaments for Under 11 boys and Under 11 girls - two indoor and two outdoor which are open to the champion schools from each Local Primary Association in the County.

In addition to these events there are also Inter-Association County Cups at Under 13, Under 14 and Under 15 age groups plus cups for Under 11 representative sides, both boys and girls -the boys side progressing to take part in a national ESFA 7-a-side Championship.
