NOTTINGHAM’S TOP SCHOOLS ARE REWARDED
At the end of each season, the committee of Nottingham Schools’ Football Association always has a difficult task to perform. They have to decide, which schools will be awarded their two most prestigious awards – The Nicholson Trophy for Secondary Schools and the Fred Riddell Cup at Primary level.
The winners of these trophies must not only be successful in competitions, but their teams must be well organised and display a disciplined approach to the game throughout the season.
The two trophies were presented at the N.S.F.A. Presentation Evening at Ellis Guilford School on Thursday 24th May. Trinity Catholic Secondary School received the Nicholson Trophy, while Carrington Primary School was awarded the Fred Riddell Cup.
The Tim Nicholson Memorial Trophy was named after a young teacher from Margaret Glen Bott Secondary School, who was a member of the N.S.F.A. committee and keen team manager of the City U12s and U13s, before his untimely death 1979.
This is the fifth occasion on which Trinity have received this Trophy and it was once again well deserved. Trinity teams won four out of the five City Boys’ Knock-Out Cup competitions as well as the U15 Boys and U13 Boys Merit Tables. They also achieved second place in the U16 Boys and U14 Boys Merit Tables. They also retained the U16 Boys’ Indoor 5-a-side Trophy for the third consecutive season.
Each season Carrington Primary School enters a team in almost every competition that is offered by the N.S.F.A. Over recent years their teams have brought several trophies back to their school. Last season they were asked to move into the City Area League from their usual East Area League, but still managed to win the competition. Carrington also reached the final of the East Area group in the Karnival 7-a-sides, but lost to their old rivals St. Augustine’s in the Final. The prospects for the coming season look good, as the school’s U10 team won through to the semi-final stage of the Forest 6-a-side competition, although they failed to reach the Grand Final. |
